I love straw handbags in the summer. Something that says "Islands" or "Italy". Preferably bought on vacation.

So far this year I'm using something I got at Penny's, lol.

Julia, I saw a beautiful red "crocodile" leather handbag at Marshall's a few weeks ago. I'm kicking myself now that I didn't get it.

Mine was mock croc too! It wasn't shiny, though, just glossy. With big silver buckles.

I miss my purse.

I love Mim's of Maine... I love it when I find something that's made locally (in the USA at least!) and these bags are gorgeous... BACKPACK PURSE CONVERTIBLE LAPTOP BAG IPAD CASE by MimsMaine

She has different fabrics you can choose and different leather... beautiful simple and elegant. The convertable bags that go from backpack to tote are cool, too.

I disagree. Burberry would not go with the soft greens, turquoise, blues and pinks I like to wear in the summer....burberry colors are more appropriate for fall/winter to me.

I think a well made straw or natural material handbag is perfect for most summer wear - Coach, Michael Kors, etc. make some beautiful ones.

Tan with black leather trim. One nice style is Simply Vera by Vera Wang. They are nice and stylish.

I would either go with brave belts Tabitha drawstring bag or Christopher Kon sahiba double handle fold bag. These are lovely pieces and will go with whatever we wear.

I just ordered the purse/hobo tote above in a chocolatey brown leather from Mim's of Maine.

So cool to know that something was made for you, by hand, in the US, and you get to choose all your colors/fabrics/hardware and everything. I love etsy!

That is beautiful, Haggard! I would never have thought of Etsy for a leather purse.

Interesting responses! We may not all have the same tastes but fun to hear what you like. Because I'm no longer working, 99% of my wardrobe is casual and in earth tones. I bought a bone colored classic satchel--maybe a little boring but it was just the right size and a good neutral shade. Then at Goodwill I found a brand new with tags Sak crocheted handbag in pretty shades of tan; for $4.99 what a bargain!

The cool thing about Mim's, too, is that each one is made especially for you. You have to wait a bit for your order, but I think it's worth it. I mean... I'd rather have something one-of-a-kind like this that's made by hand in the USA than some mass-produced made in China or wherever that's been shipped over on a cargo ship...

When I was shopping for purses recently, I went to Nordstroms and Macy's and kept checking out the expensive purses they had... they were supposed to be high-quality but when I touched them and tried them out I just felt like a walking advertisement, it felt shallow. I went online... almost bought a Louis Vuitton.... and there was a chanel bag I was considering... but I just didn't feel good about it. SO glad I checked etsy - I'm not even sure what made me think of etsy... just kind of a whim.
