I haven't seen anything like that in Russian media, BUT..
SBU is Ukrainian KGB, basically. So WHAT were they doing on your "regular military Ukrainian vessel" a-hem.?
Ukraine is accusing SBU officers of involvement in Russia's seizure of the Ukrainian vessels.
The propaganda seems to always work like a mirror image of the news. When they got caught, they accuse the other side of doing the exact same thing. It's the old tactic of passing the hot potato when you're given a sticky and uncomfortable question.
You probably aren't aware of how navies operate but ranking ships are supposed to have non enlisted security officers. The SBU acts as security officers on Naval ships. Russia uses FSB officers in the same way. The US navy has master at arms. Britain (where most of the world's modern naval roles are based on) has used different entities for this over the years, and at some point they used Marines. We still use Marines as security officers at embassies due to this traditional role. This is a very general description of a complex system but I think my point is made.
Acting like their presence on these ships is unusual or even nefarious is just disinformation.
I know what you're speaking about and from that I can say you're partly correct. Larger ships do have a Master At Arms, he's a Sheriff of the ship. A Corvette though? A coastal patrol boat? Not likely in any Navy. It could vary by the size of the fleet but it seems highly unlikely.
Russia and Japan are currently negotiating a peace treaty whereby two of the Kiril Islands will be returned to Japan on the condition that no US forces will be stationed there in the future.
It's all politics in the media. American Naval assets go to certain places but seem to follow the rules and stay witihin bounds. Russia would've confronted the vessel had it been otherwise.
Of course there will be the well endowed mental gymnasts that will say the US destroyer cruised right up to a dock in Vladivostok and a party of US marines assualted city hall and stole the Russian tricolor off its pole but then everybody has a fantasy.
And guess who is in a perfect position to cash in?
