If any of the countries that were targeting these countries were truly democratic, much of what's occurring today wouldn't be happening. That was clearly stated by Obama when he declined a conventional invasion of Syria in favor of covert military and terrorism campaigns in order to keep the decision-making and information flow out of the public domain. As with most governance issues, there is really very limited public input into decision-making. Most of the EU countries that created dealings with Iran after the sanctions were lifted decided they weren't going to go along when those sanctions were reimposed and have recently made their own monetary means of flow to and from Iran. The US was/is not included.
