The same attitude permeated a lot of thinking in the German high command. "Kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will collapse". We know how that turned out.

Stalin spent a serious purge of commanders for a couple of years before that. I think that this seriously affected the preparation of the war. But he had reasons for this.

Finland was one of 6 nations invaded in 1939 by the USSR while Stalin shipped materials to Hitler to finish off the capitalist West.

Stalin was preparing for a great war. He understood that Finland would be quickly occupied by Germans and Germans would strike from the territory of Finland.

Clinton-Yeltsin papers declassified: fixing votes American-style, fixing Yeltsin's heart American-style, Yeltsin acquiescence to NATO encroachment in E. Europe, and disarming of Serbia's military during NATO invasion

I agree. The purges left the Red Army with a largely decimated officer corp with a huge army those remaining had to manage. This dogged them well into the war with Germany.

Finland was very chummy with the nazis. They hopes that if war came they couuld expand with the crumbs the Germans would allow them to have. Make no mistake, they were going to seize any opportunities that came their way. Stalin was prudent in pushing them back to a safer distance.

In the summer of 1941 Finland reclaimed its territory lost and then went further than that in the fall taking parts of Russia that were never Finnish. Interesting fun fact, the day before Pearl Harbor, Britain declared war on Finland for doing this.

True. So what? It seems to me to be the manifestation of the opportunistic nature of the Finnish Nazi bootlickers at the time.

It seems that "GRU agents from Salisbury" are engaged in small smuggling of sports nutrition from England to Russia (possibly quite legitimately or on the verge of law).

It seems the British came out to smugglers in this case.

Poor Russian guys. Just fly to the UK and want to see nothing there but the cathedral in Salisbury. Do two very quick trips there and then immediately fly back to Moscow. By sheer coincidence Skripal was poisoned when they did their cathedral sightseeing....
