I think the city looks much more attractive at night.Overall it looks really cool.

Those Soviet buildings are such eyesores though.

Traditional Romanian architecture is the most beautiful I've ever seen anywhere in the world! I love those photos of Dacia street, and the rest of Old Bucharest. That architecture can be found all over Romania.

The "little Paris" formula was applied more to the orientation of the Romanian bourgeoise to the French language and culture in 19th century rather than to the architecture of Bucharest.

The wide boulevards were created in the first half of 20th century, by demolition of 1, 2 or even three rows of houses on each of road's sides. Was a sort of retarded Hausmannization which made place for many new buildings and together with the construction boom from the 1920-1940 has given Bucharest a dominantly Modernist profile, which is not characteristic for Paris, which is mostly Belle Epoque.

Some (not only Romanians) say that Bucharest is, architecturally speaking, the Modernist capital of the world, which is surely exagerated, if we think only to Chicago or NY but I think is one of the most Modernist - looking cities in the world anyway.

Some remarquable Modernist and Art Deco buildings:

This last segment of photos, almost look like buildings you could readily find in Vienna.

Magheru Boulevard, part of the main north - south thoroughfare through the middle of the city, including also the sectors called Lascăr Catargiu Boulevard, Bălcescu Boulevard and Brătianu Boulevard. The entire thoroughfare was enlarged in 1920s-19430s and new Art Deco and Modernist buildings were erected along it. Is the 26th most expensive street in the world and one of the most Modernist-looking as well.
