There is $200,000 USD in a pocket. We would like to buy an apartment 1-2 bedroom in Italy. Which region? Lombardy is to our taste. Or maybe somewhere else.... We are Americans with Swedish passports as well.

If i were you i wouldnt move to firenze and the area around. The people there really dont like americans. Maybe because of all the tourists. I dont know how its in lombardy. And if i were you i would learn italian because if you speak english to the natives (most of them cant speak english) they will think you are tourists and it will be even harder to socialise.
You wrote:"where in sweden?"
Do you mean you are thinking to move there and are just choosing between italy and sweden?
For americans it will be 10 times easier to integrate in scandinavian countries. Everything south of denmark Is very unconventional.
I hope i could help you

Given that they are Italian, it is expected that they speak their language, which is Italian, and that is only natural.
I don't think Italians travel overseas expecting people in their countries to speak Italian to them.
When they travel, like every tourist, they are the ones who have to adapt to the place they are visiting, which makes sense, no?!

I don't even know what to say to this... I am just speechless.

OP, if you mention what you like about Lombardy and what you are looking for more exactly (in Italy) I might be able to give you a suggestion.

Well they said they are american. So yes maybe they speak italian, which would be the best for them.

But because they are AMERICAN the better country would be sweden than italy. The scandinavians have a more similar culture/mentility to USA. That is what i mean. More south it gets more special.

I am Russian with US passport and regardless of my long life in the United States, I think I do not have an American mentality. My husband is Swede with US and Swedish passport.

If you are going to Italy, then try Tuscany. I lived in Tirrenia for 12 years and it was so much fun. I lived right down the street of the Hotel Maximo in Tirrenia.

If I relocated to Italy, it would be Rome definitely. That said, Italy is a very nice country overall.

Nobody understands beauty and culture better than the Italians.

I am not sure how far USD200,000 (barely 150,000 euros) will get you in many places in Italy or Sweden, you'll probably have to aim at smaller towns.
