From his newly released tax returns

Years 2006 and 2007

Senate Salary-161,675 (2006) 161,708 (2007)

Book royalties-80,390 (2006) 176,508 (2007)

Social Security-22,104 (2006) 23,157 (2007)

Navy pension-56,496 (2006) 58,358 (2007)

This illustrates two things, he's taking government money he doesn't need ( his wife is worth an estimated 100 million) and, most importantly, the mere fact that he is eligible for SS is another reminder of just how old this man really is.

Well he is over the age where there are penalties for working obviously!! Ridiculous, thought Republicans thought you should never take money from the government, but as MCCAIN has only ever gotten his paychecks from the government, I guess he is used to seeing the Treasury Seal on his checks.

First, he paid into Social Security, so he collects on it. That's the way the failed system works.

Second, he gives all book royalties to charities. In addition, he has donated all pay raises that he has received as a Senator to charity in opposition to Congress giving themselves pay raises.

Third, this age issue is ridiculous. Our Presidents back in the 1800's were all in the 50's and 60's back when life expectancy was in the early 40's. Like he said, he out campaigned all of the other Republicans and he will out campaign Hillary or Obama.

As a gesture, he could leave it in the treasury, he does not have to collect it. My father was eligible and did not collect until he actually retired. It was a depression pride thing.

I'm sure he feels, as most conservatives do, that his charities are a more efficient way to put that money to good use than the Federal Government.

Has he said his social security payments go to his charities?

He gave all his pay raises and book profits to charity (probably should of given it back to the treasury department instead). That speaks volumes on character (albeit his wife is pretty well off... in all departments). Social security STOLED from him first, now he is collecting back what they stoled... what is wrong with that? The poor don't take advantage of the government? I don't know what world you are living in but it ain't Earth.

Wait a minute. It's his money he's collecting. It's the same as if he were getting a monthly check from his 401(k).
