Pay close attention. We are witnessing history in the making here. Kids, of all people, are starting the revolution to take our government back from one of the most corrupt administrations in the history of the US. Never would have thought I'd see the day or be so proud of the youth of our nation. And know this: we are with you!

He certainly deserves to and maybe the types of folks that rejected a pedophile in Alabama, will reject this sociopathic panderer in Maine.

High school kids started the civil rights movement back in the early 60s. Once it was evident they weren't going to give up, their older brothers and sisters in college joined them, and the rest is history.

If the grownups won't stand up and do the right thing for their children, the children have to do it for themselves. The big kids have to care for their little brothers and sisters, and the bigger kids have to care for the big kids. They are all targets, and they all know it's up to them because adults won't do a damned thing.

It is making history, again, but it is actually a biological imperative. When the young of any species have to fend for themselves, they will fend. For survival. Abandoning our young does not happen often, but it has happened before.
Since some more will surely die by gunfire, they now realize they can no longer be passive about matters of life and death.

It seems it was not his tweet that got people motivated to run against him. The article says that the (D) candidate was already gathering names to run before he put his foot in his mouth.

Now his tweet did cause him to drop out of an easy win and it very well could flip the seat. I don't understand how so many hateful politicians (of all stripes) win in the first place.

He was running completely unopposed and then had to hit the twitter.
In a tweet, since deleted (of course) he nastily insulted Emma Gonzalez and David Hogg because even children are not off limits to these cretins.

"State representative Leslie Gibson, a Maine Republican who was running unopposed for his seat, gained a challenger on Thursday after posting tweets that insulted two students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who have become vocal gun control activists.
...
Eryn Gilchrist said she never intended to run for political office, but was motivated to oppose Gibson after reading his comments. She said she was already in the process of gaining the necessary signatures to enter the race when Hogg made his Twitter plea."

As we saw in PA, seats that have been completely safe and haven't seen a challenge from the other party for years are now seeing challengers.

No idea about Ms Gilchrist's chances, but win or lose, it is these small steps that inspire others to join the fray.
This is how a wave starts.
You missed the part where he apologized. not taking away his stupid comment but give the entire story.

Maine unfortunately has repubs almost indistinguishable from dems. In 2012, if you just lived around the U of Maine in Orono, you'd think Maine was all in for Obama. Even at the farmer's market Obama signs all over the place. SO odd, Maine has to have the most lenient gun laws in the nation and wild eyed democrats coming out of the woodwork. Go figure. Time to break away from Massachusetts again, which dominates southern Maine.

Illegal aliens have killed about 3,000 in that same time frame (could be much more, but many state prisons don't track inmates by citizenship status).

If it was life that actually mattered to them, they picked the wrong cause. Just ban/deport all illegal aliens.
Do you have any link for those numbers? Sorry, but your word isn't good enough given your obvious bias.
Also, I'm not sure why you would limit shooting fatalities only to schools. That hardly seems honest in a discussion on gun violence, which is really what those kids are going after.

Because there are a lot of hateful people. One only needs to stroll over to the immigration forum to see that. Or you know, attend a Trump rally.

It probably is that simple. I hope not.

Unfortunately, I think it is. Most people are decent, but those that are not are still a significant minority and they have a hell of a loud voice these days.
