Mitt Romney is a minority - a Mormon.

Barack Obama is a minority - an American black man.

This election is historic.

Quote:
Think about where we have arrived. It's a diversity bonanza. Americans are about to choose between re-electing the first African-American president and electing the first Mormon president. If you're one of those people who care about diversity and expanding opportunity -- and if you like it when America experiences the "first" this and the "first" that -- this is a good place to be. Let's enjoy the moment.

Bammy is not black. He is one half white. Even though he hates that half.

Saying that Romney is a minority because he is mormon is like saying I'm a minority because I don't like gravy. It is a fluid, artificial and pointless distinction.

Isn't one definition of minority a group of people who have suffered prejudice, injustice, and persecution by those of the majority over a period of time?

If that doesn't describe the Mormons - I don't know what else does.

Last I checked, nobody hates you if you don't like gravy.

With the same criterea, I suppose you could make the claim that Nixon-JFK was an all minority election as well....

JFK was an Irish Catholic; Nixon was a Quaker...

Some people might, but the example works with anything else. Suppose I was "goth"; would I then be a "minority"?

As long as we are arbitarily deciding what makes one a minority, how about an Ivy League degree? That would make this...a normal election.
