Some people might, but the example works with anything else. Suppose I was "goth"; would I then be a "minority"?
Some people? I hate you for not liking gravy. It's yummy and delicious, and if you don't like it, you'll die and end up floating in a lake of gravy for the rest of your afterlife.
Exactly. And Taft was fat. Does he get to be the first "minority" fat president?
President Roosevelt really blew it when he dropped out and supported Taft in 1908. Here is this robust man who promotes the "strenuous life" - letting a plumpish sort like Bill Taft to become the Republican leader.
I always wondered if the Democrats nominated Woody Wilson because he was so skinny in comparison to Taft.
Teddy got back into that race - maybe because he saw the potential disaster looming if people voted based on weight rather than issues.
What is interesting to me is that the US Supreme Court is made of 9 Justices - 6 are Roman Catholic and 3 are Jewish ... not one Justice of the Supreme Court is a Protestant.

I have nothing against it. Just sayin' ...
Would President Romney appoint a Mormon to the court?
Isn't one definition of minority a group of people who have suffered prejudice, injustice, and persecution by those of the majority over a period of time?
If that doesn't describe the Mormons - I don't know what else does.
This pretty much sums it up perfectly. There's all sorts of groups out there, but you're in a small fraternity when you have been ordered to leave multiple states under threat of death by that state's very government, the federal government has actually sent the federal army to attack you without provocation and the federal government has gone out of its way to eliminate you as a people. Native Americans are one of the few groups that have this same recurring theme in their history in the USA. No other Christian religion of any stripe has been assaulted and repressed repeatedly by our federal government. And you have engines within American society constantly reinforcing bigotry against them. You see the same with every other minority group. I fail to see the difference.
And let's be honest, if a Jew -- generally not physically identifiable as a minority -- was nominated by one of the two political parties, you're anti-hate folks would hold it up and proclaim victory for tolerance and defeat for mindless hate. If being a Jew counts, being a Mormon counts. How does it not?
