The election is a long ways off. The headline number is going to shift around as it has with the CBS/NYT over the past few months. The only thing one should be looking at at this point in time is trends in a) relative favorability ratings and b) opinions on the direction the economy is moving (improving or not). In both measures Obama has the edge. The economy is improving in spite of the denials from Republicans and Americans can see that judging by the poll. And Romney continues to be viewed more negatively than favorably. That alone could spell his defeat, but an improving economy virtually assures it.
The poll revealed a statistical tie. The campaign hasn't really gotten underway yet. Crow or cry in September and after. Not now. It's insignificant.
Obama has had a free ride with no primary challenge and a lapdog media. Romney has gotten hammered by the media and his republican rivals. And it is still this close? Obama is toast.

Romney received excellent, supportive media support during the primary. The attacks by mostly idiots also in the race made him look almost normal. He's been relatively unchallenged by the Obama campaign. The nation is about as polarized this year as years ago. It'll be a close decision. Advantage to Obama, though. That's how I see it.
Respondents were also skeptical of Obama's recent announcement that he supports same-sex marriage. A majority - 67% - said they believe the president made the announcement because of "political reasons," with 86% of Republicans and 70% of independents holding that view. Among Democrats, 48% believed he was motivated by "what is right" and 42% cited politics.
51% against gm.
I don't think democrats/Left know how to DO social issues.

Oh no, favorability ratings mean nothing according to you and the other Obamalings...remember your outcry about that a few days ago. You blow with the wind. It's too funny!
Exactly, and it was not just the liberal media either. Romney has taken it from both side....Fox News, right wing talk radio and the left wing media and it's only getting worse by the day.
Romney now leads Obama in women voter catagory...oops
Democrat's strategy to divide and engage in identity politics seems to be working.
