OP"Every time Santorum wins, he opens his mouth and inserts his foot the very next day"
LOL. Reminds me of my fav line from Mary Tyler Moore by Lou : "People don't watch Ted Baxter to see him put his foot in his mouth. They watch to find out how he'll get the other one in there with it".

Santorum can easily be substituted for Baxter.
Lol...that's the truth! Just when you think he can't say anything more divisive, insensitive or stupid...he raises the bar one more time.

He did a great job of alienating the Danes, and now he has the chutzpah to tell an already bi-lingual commonwealth that it's English only if they want statehood. That makes no sense whatsoever. He's quite the little despot, isn't he? Imagine what he'd do to America...scary.
Reuters) - Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum told Puerto Ricans on Wednesday they would have to make English their primary language if they want to pursue U.S. statehood, a statement at odds with the U.S. Constitution.
Santorum traveled to the U.S. territory to campaign ahead of the island's Republican primary election scheduled for Sunday, where he, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are vying for 20 delegates.
Puerto Ricans, who recognize both English and Spanish as their official languages, are scheduled to vote in November on a referendum to decide whether they want to pursue statehood or remain a self-governing U.S. commonwealth.
Every time Santorum wins, he opens his mouth and inserts his foot the very next day. Fortunately, it ususally just gets better and better as the week progresses also.
I am notr a Santorum supporter, in fact I don't know what I would do if he got the nomination, but he is right plus they really have indicated, in the past, they do not want statehood.
If he is the GOP nominee, you might as well kiss Arizona, Florida and Texas goodbye as well. Why do the Republicans think this anti-Latino crap is still good politics? Is it the racists within the GOP base that make them do this kind of stupid stuff?
AZ, will go Republican regardless, so will Texas, Fl anyone's guess. Why are you making such a silly projection? BTW, he will not get the nomination. It is either Romney or a candidate not in the running right now.

Each referendum gets more and more votes for statehood. The last referendum was in 1998. Polling over the last several years has indicated that about 55-60% of Puerto Ricans favor statehood. Roughly 35-40% favor the territorial commonwealth status quo and less than 10% favor independence. In actual referendums and elections the independence option has never gotten more than 5% of the vote. 95% of Puerto Ricans prefer a permanant union with the United States - either as a state or as a territory.

They are already very much bilingual with two official languages, Spanish and English. And, yes, most do not even want statehood, so what was his point in saying this? Even if he had a point, what did it benefit him to bring this up now when he is trying to get their votes? He is just an idiot.
nmnita, Several swing states have significant population from people who previously lived in Puerto Rico or have relatives there. RS is doing a wonderful job of wrapping those in a pretty box, with a nice bow, and handing them to Barack Obama. Now if you like helping Obama, I can understand your support for Santorum's position.
