I or the other generations of my family that has lived or still live in ELP have never seen a rat there..maybe by the canal..but there are some in downtown Dallas..in the shrubbery by Belo on Young Street..I have seen them lurking around in the darkness when I have walked from Central LIbrary to Union Station to take the TRE

Default Unanimous!

So, no varmint that anyone has seen in the city. Maybe they got confused with rats as in knucklhead cholos?! Now El Paso did have an infestation what those that I recall.

Seriously, I know they base this on other factors as others have noted, but maybe people purchased rat killing chemicals/devices for other purposes, ground squirrels, mice, etc.?

I have had rodent problems in both my grandmother's house in 1996 and my house in recent years, but those were field mice.
Other than that, i havent seen an actual rat, that is the large ugly thing.

I've never seen a rat. The one time I saw mice there were chickens involved so they had even more bait, but never a rat. Maybe the person who wrote the list doesn't know the difference?

True - rat poison could be a cheap substitute for coumadin, or maybe it could be used for killing ground moles and the other critters that are common here.

Read it again !!!--- El Paso is the WORST city for rats. That means in the survey of 2500 rats aged 1-3 nationwide -many complained about hot dry weather and too spicy mexican food left around the house. I just don't understand why someone who is not a rat is offended that rats don't like El Paso. Perhaps he would prefer to live under the subways and sewers of New York City rated by 2 out of 3 rats as #1 for its aroma, recycled food, and darkness. Jeez El Pasoans are just too sensitive about seeing any thing which could be interpreted negatively. Really anyone who is worried about these Rodent Life Magazine ratings has got too much time on their hands.

LOL oceah2026!

Hookthebrotherup that video cracked me up.

I've seen coyotes, jackrabbits, various spiders (Large ones---texas sized large) geckos, owls, hawks, buzzards----but I haven't seen a rat here. I haven't seen any snakes either which having lived in central Texas for nine years I got used to seeing snakes spring through fall. Lots of them.
