Not to sound heartless but you said your son had a large amount of money there and a $100 balance is not hard to keep. If you're truly living paycheck to paycheck with no savings then you're living beyond your means and everything will come tumbling down sooner or later.

2 choices: More income or fewer expenses. Granted the government hasn't figured this out either. The bank thing is simply a symptom of bigger financial issues. What the heck are you going to do if the current Cap/Trade bill which just passed the House actually becomes law???? Michigan will be looking at a doubling of utility bills. People living paycheck to paycheck are in deep trouble.

That's what I keep telling everyone who asks on these forums what bank should they do business with for their personal finances. I opened an account with a local credit union after I had enough of WaMu's (now Chase) poor telephone customer service from overseas telephone reps. I've been more than happy with my credit union and will NEVER do business with a commercial bank again!
