and those of us who are NOW unemployed and have NO income (UI ran out month's ago) waiting for employers to loosen their belts is similar to waiting for banks... a conservative bunch... I need to pay my $6,000 semi annual property tax SOON... not AFTER someone decides they can hire more people, then interview a few months, then wait for delayed paychecks and healthcare... It can't be soon enough for millions of us who get ZERO impact from a credit to 'with-holdings...' (what's that with no check...)
Not that anything (of benefit) is gonna happen... I'm certainly not waiting for that!
Obama's plan ignores the self-employed. When companies are hurting, one of the first things they do is cut back on, or lay off, independent contractors, who receive no UI. They won't receive a stimulus through paychecks, either, so that's another hit. Add to that an escalating situation where many SE people feeling the pinch can't even refi their mortgages to lower their payments, because irresponsible borrowers have abused the loan products that enabled the SE to qualify. And the SE pay a double tax for SS, so they're getting hammered from both sides.
Yet the new administration is offering nothing to the entrepreneurs who have been the backbone of American business. Yes, the SE choose that path, but they are a large group and their impact will be felt.
I believe that there is such a thing as the small business administration that could provide those loans.It often depends if the business has any assets to qualify for the low interest loans. But in reality many businesses both large and small will fail just has in the past recessions.
I could care less about the political or economic details or repercussions. If the government or anyone else wants to give me money, I will take it and spend it.
In all honesty but how is an extra $10-20 a week going to help Americans? Really. I voted for Obama, I like him and I know he is trying and has a very big job ahead of him, but do you really think the packagehe is proposing will do any good?
Government welfare will do nothing. If people could live on unemployment forever, they would. The issue is trying to make the USA competitive on the world level. Unfortunately I believe it is too late. The USA is on a crash course of a soviet style collapse.

I can't wait to see which happens first: closing of the Lincoln Memorial, removal the Bull sculpture from Wall Street or handing out gold from Ft. Knox.
Wow... nice link... only 20% will be seen in 2009 and the rest in 2010... and after reading a little bit on the stimulus... half of it is junk (which also happens to be the easiest to implement).... which means we won't see anything until 2010... I hope Obama vetoes it to keep up with no wasteful government spending rhetoric he talked about during the campaign...
