Edible Economic Indicators: Spam, Beer Sales Rise - General * US * News * Story - CNBC.com

“We are scheduled to work every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas,” said Darwin Sellers, 56, a Spam “formulator” who adds salt, sugar and nitrates to batches of Spam. “Mr. Ettinger is negotiating with the man upstairs to get us to work eight days a week.”

****************

Every day since July, except for holidays. Man! At least his job is safe. Safer. Whatever.

Spam in a can. I wonder if you can mold into the shape of a turkey.

Canned Spam and canned tuna. It's the fact that it's "canned" that makes it so popular. As in, it will keep. For a few years. You can stock up and stash it away.

And that, my friends, is behind the great sudden attraction to Spam!

Spam inflation!!

1999 I bought some spam to stock up on Y2K....yeah, yeah crazy, crazy....point was that I liked it and it stored well. But we were buying cans of spam for $1.00 a can on sale. I went to Wally world today and it was $2.38 a can, now I can't afford spam!! I bought the Walmart brand for $1.58 a can.

Inflation, a thief in the night.

Good luck, stock up when on sale.

Tony

Spam is gross. Spam is also very popular in Hawaii. One aspect of Hawaii I definately don't miss!

I have switched to some peasant food to get used to it. However the beauty of it is I can make my peasant food from scratch. My hand made tortillas filled with refried pinto beans made from dry are better than what most people are eating out.

Here is a ground cherry pie. $30 a pop but under $2 for me.

My dad said he ate Spam every day for about 3 months during WW2. He still ate it once in a while. I can see it fried in the morning with eggs but it would be a good survival meal or something to take camping.
My bunker staple: canned Chicken ala king. Put it on toast and you have a tasty meal.
