What kind of sick? What kind of dog? How old is she?
I use Interceptor for all my dogs. They have had no problems. I have used revolution, sentinel and advantage. One of my dogs got really sick after I applied revolution, but I can't say for sure that is why he threw up. I just know he has had no problems with the one now
Check with your vet - I don't know, I have really big dogs - Rottweilers - but after age 10-12 my vet discourages the use of HW meds since the medication can make older systems ill and they would die of old age before dying of heartworms...but I know little dogs live a LONG time, so that may not hold true.
There's a generic Heartguard you can order from Australia with no Rx - PM me and I'll give you the address. My husband is a pharmacist and compared the ingredients, says it's the same thing. My dogs have never had a problem, but they could eat a horse.....
arent avantage and sentenal flea and tick meds? i'm interested in the heartworm. i used heartguard and she got worms, it was awful. i was freeking out when i saw them. that's why i went to the new stuff. thank you all for all your replies.

The dog got intestinal worms or heartworms? I'm guessing you are talking intestinal because you saw them? You can't see heartworms.
It's not uncommon for dogs to get hooks, whips and tapeworms. Some of the meds for heartworm will also control hookwork and whipworm, but tapes are a whole 'nother ball game. Mine get wormed every 3 months - then again, I have 7. You can buy the meds for hooks and whips online - tapeworms are easily visible to the eye. They come from infected fleas and all you are seeing is segments - a tapeworm can be 6" long and living in the stomach or intestines...
So what kind of worm are we talking here?
