My new dog, 60 lb. lab/pit bull wants to pull on the leash so I tried what Victoria Stillwell recommends: just stop every time the dog pulls. Works for me, though not certain it would've worked for my last dog--a 100lb. lab!
70+ pound lab/sharpei mix here and he is underweight for his size, lol. Just got him this weekend and he is a real handful to walk. I'm going to pickup a harness today as the collar isn't cutting it. Tons of training to do with him but I think the first one needs to be leash training, heh.
I have our dog trained so that I just call his name and say "SLOW", and he slows down and waits for me to catch up. It took some time but I don't have to worry about the pulling for me. I usually walk with him and have his leash over my shoulder (without having to actually hold the leash), which I think is a long way from what he used to do. Now, if my mother can only walk him like that - that would be a great accomplishment.
