I've got a maltese mix about 2 years old, that I adopted from Animal Control. He's been with me since November and all of a sudden, last month, he gets the cat turds out of the box and tries to eat them. I try to keep the box clean, but he sneaks in occasionally.

Help!!! it's all of a sudden, no changes in anything in our life.... I don't know what is casing this.

He is being a dog. They are gross (but i love them). You are going to have to restrict his access.

Others will tell you how.....

i've never had a dog that didn't get a little snack from the litter box. DH calls it recycled cat food. hard to keep them out. you either have to get covered tray, put it where they can't get to it or religiously clean the tray several times a day. remember not only is it gross but ingesting that kitty litter can cause serious intestine blockages so you need to take some action. my maltese/bichon mix likes to leave them around the house. kind of doggie hide and seek I think. not a fun game.

Ok All of a Sudden??? Hummmm 2 questions DID you just change the food your cat eats? Or the type/kind of litter?

My gf yorkie of 15 yrs suddenly decide to remove the cats poo out of the litter box.... Right after she got one of those Self cleaning litter boxes!! We figured he was upset & was trying to Rescue the poo LOL Got rid of the box he left it alone hehehehe

Yes as others said you can put the box up where the cat can get to it but the dog cant.

I have three dogs, my one rescue loves the cookies covered in cat litter..gross. My cat box is in my laundry room which has a door. If the rescue is in the house for extended periods of time, I put up a baby gate so he can no longer access the laundry room but my cat can jump the gate.

My beagle LOVES kitty litter divin'. It's like dumpster diving, only dog style.

Right now I have the box on top of an old sewing table, just so the dog can't get into it... but working on building a kitty cabinet so I dont have to actually SEE the box, either.

Yuck.

My Havanese loves the kitty box We finally put it in our laundry room and put a baby gate across the doorway so the cats can use it, but the dog can't.
