I believe he is 3 weeks in the picture. He'll be a little more than 6 weeks when we pick him up! Luckily my husband and I are young and full of energy so this will be an adventure we are more than looking forward to!

Is this from a rescue where they have the mother too?? If so, please see if they'll be willing to keep it for at least 8 weeks. There is so much a mother dog needs to teach a puppy that humans are very likely unable to that is vital to their long term health and mental well being. My rescue wouldn't adopt out any puppy before 10 weeks. They wind up having way too many problems long term when they're taken too early. Please, go see Foxy's post 'Dozer Update'. She does a much better job putting to words why they need to be with mom than I ever could. I never seem to get it to come out where people can understand what I'm saying. Those are a very vital couple weeks.

That is a good point. I'm not sure if the mother is still there, too, or not. I'll have to look into it!! Thanks for bringing that up!

it is ILLEGAL in MOST states to sell (or adopt out) a puppy under 8 weeks of age...
that would be INCREDIBLY concerning to me, is this a rescue facility or a private "home" because if its a private home RUN, anyone willing to illeglaly let their pups go at 6 weeks old isnt just sending you home wiht a puppy whos going to be behind on mental development (they NEED momma and siblings untill a minimum of 8 weeks old to get them through fear stages assist in scilization and MOST importanly, teach Bite inhibition...something you as a human will NEVER be able to effectively do...
they also tend to come home wiht a great number of health issues...

belive me, ive raised many a puppy in my life, i occaisonally breed, i show i work dogs i always have, and the ONLY pups ive EVER had issues with are pups removed from mother and siblings too early in life...
Dozer is very lucky, i got him at 5 weeks old and the only reason were making such good progress is because i have 2 adult dogs in my home to help...you are not a dog and cannot ever replace mommy or siblings in terms of proper mental development...

8 weeks is the absolute minimum...i keep any pups i rais untill a minimum of 10 weeks, 12 if they arnt developing as quickly or seem to be going through tentitivity and fear...

heres the list of legal sale/adoption ages
Age to Sell Puppy Table

if money is changing hands even if its an "adoption fee" those are the ages...
if no money is changing hands, well, its stil better to wait untill 8 weeks.
Either go through a legitimate rescue facility or find a GOOD breeder

you said your "rescuing" the puppy but that often means "he was on craiglist for a $50 adoption fee" remember this isnt rescuing, rescuing is adopting from a licensed rescue faciity/shelter/pound.

i just dont want to see anyone, puppy included, not working out well because of a lack of information...

LOL. According to Anthony45 you and I are both morons who don't know any real experts on this since we think it's bad to remove puppies before 8 weeks. His 'experts' seem to think the only good dogs are yanked from the dam a couple weeks before.
What's wrong with people????

(^ In reference to another post, sorry.)

You betcha! If it's a rescue, take that list from Foxy to them so they know the law. I'd never seen it myself!

Can't wait to see updated photos when you get the little one home!
