I have been looking for cheap housing, which means Pontiac and Detroit. I love the Morning Side area but it seems to be a high-crime area. Another area I've found is (I think) Highland Park, a triangle shaped area just east of the abandoned state fair ground...the road just rolls up to a 30 foot brick wall and stops. This areas most unforgetable feature is burnouts...about two out of three houses are ruined by fire. I've seen city equipment doing clearning in the "Hood" so I'll quess that it will eventually get cleaned up. Anybody that can give me info on this area, I would appreciate it. My girlfriend is afraid to even drive by, but I like the Mad Max kind of anarchy there.

It's not going to get cleaned up in the gentrified sense of the word. Highland Park is actually a city of its own; the area up by the fairgrounds is actually Detroit but it shares the 48203 Zip Code with Highland Park.
