I agree with Retroit though.

You can't stuff too many public and casino buildings into a relatively small downtown. There needs some creative, private enterprises to make the place lasting and truly successful. Unfortunately, I here it is really unfriendly to design and build a business in Detroit. I think Slows BBQ took a while to realize..

Its not just a matter of what will a new stadium bring to Detroit, but if the Pistons were to leave the Detroit area then what effect will it have on the city? This was on Fox News earlier this morning, which mentioned Ilitch actually considering purchasing the Pistons so they won't leave Detroit all together as well as the possibility of relocating them from the Palace into the city and providing jobs to local construction companies. Of course if he were to build a new place for the Pistons to play it probably wouldn't take effect for another maybe 3 to 5 years.

Detroit needs residents, industry, and business. I'll grant you that stadiums may help a few businesses catering to the stadium crowds, but the expectations that people have with new stadiums is overblown. Money and city resources could be better spent.

If the Pistons left metro Detroit, the effect on the city of Detroit would be non-existent.

...except maybe people would spend their time and money on something productive.

So what is something productive? You seem to shoot down every mention of develop in Detroit, so what does Detroit need to do? Maybe if they ask nicely some company will locate to Detroit. I'm sure you're against expansion of Cobo Hall to.

Cobo hall is a blight on the river. That area needs to be open up for the daily use of the residents, not by visiting outsiders who use it infrequently.

Detroit needs to focus on being a city for its residents and business owners, not being an occasional playground for outsiders.

And what would that be? You're sure good at shooting down the cities plans but can come up with nothing.

The Cobo Hall should be demolished and be replaced with a public park, preferably with more greenery and less concrete than Hart Plaza. Joe Louis should be torn down immediately after the Wings move out and be turned into a public park. If a new stadium is built in the city, it should be built entirely with Ilitch's own money and should not be built on the riverfront or downtown.

So you're in favor of spending taxpayer money on demolishing Cobo hall and converting it into a park, moving the Red Wings to Auburn Hills (Their lease on the Joe is expired) leaving Detroit spending millions on a park and have no hockey team or convention center?
