Des Moines vs. Omaha (Colo, Wyoming: legally, floor, manufacturing)

I would say omaha is superior to des moines. omaha has a lot more going for them because every part of the city is exploding with development. not to mention downtown with two more towers probably coming in, a light rail system downtown and midtown, a new downtown ballpark, condos going in everywhere you look, and the zoo expanding with rosenblatt's land, eppley airfield expecting 6 million passengers this year, Qwest center Omaha is annually in the top ten in the world for ticket sales, not to mention saddle creek records new venue and bar with condos. Also there is plans to build a new belt way around the city connecting to I-80. development is also thriving in midtown with the new $300 midtown crossing and aksarben village. The University of Nebraska-Omaha has one of the nations top engineering programs. And not to mention they have a supercomputer just built that is on of the top ten most powerful in the world. Omaha also is home to Offut air force base which controls the military nuclear arsenal. And just about to acquire the new cyber command center. Another thing, Omaha has hosted more NCAA championchip events then any city their size or even bigger.
So over all I think it is clear Omaha is on the upswing with no signs of stopping or even slowing. Des Moines can't say they this much going on in their city. Omaha wins by far.

Of course Omaha is better. It is twice the population and has taller buildings. That's the logic you have to follow if you are a Pro-DesMoines person talking about any other city in Iowa.

I had honestly never heard of the Peter Kiewet Institute. I'm sure UNO is a fine school and well respected in Eastern Nebraska. But to say it is a "national top engineering school" is pushing it - I'd reserve that distinction for the likes of University of Illinois, MIT, Berkley, Stanford, etc. In fact, it's a pretty big stretch to put UNO in the same category as top regional engineering schools like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa State, etc...

Only if you're going by city proper. The Des Moines metro is about 2/3 the size of the Omaha metro.
