In July 2010 I was pulled over in Des Moines, IA. I was issued 3 tickets, driving with a suspended license, unsafe vehicle, and no insurance. I did not appear for my court date, which was August 10th, 2010, and left town shortly thereafter. I have recently returned to Des Moines and would like to resolve this situation. I really would like to avoid doing jail time, but if there is no other option, then so be it. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks very much in advance!

I'd consult a lawyer.

But I'd like to hear about your unsafe vehicle though.

Ditto what El Rhino said.
Also, was your car impounded? Didn't they take you to jail that day and have be bonded out? Just curious, because that is usually how it works.

Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time!

(sorry...couldn't resist)

I'm thinking only an attorney can asssist you with this.

They don't want to house you and feed you...but they will.

If you pay off all your fines/tickets, turn yourself in early before morning court, they'll forget any kind of jail time.

If you get picked up, you'll spend the night in jail, you'll go before the judge and he might sentence you to 120 days.

Just hire a lawyer. He'll talk to the court on your behalf. You won't have to be there, but plan on spending about a grand or so.

Neverminding the fact that ya have a warrant for your arrest for the missed court date . .these are pretty simply handled by having current insurance, fixing your vehicle, and the cash to pay your fines and court costs.. like said .. get an attorney to help you with this. . not really a big deal when you step up and handle it yourself on your time. . .kinda sucks when ya get pulled over for some dumb thing and end up in jail, lose your job, lose your home, all your stuff, etc . . . . .take care of it...

Default Here's what you do...

Go to Room 102 in the Polk County Courthouse with tickets in hand at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday or Thursday. Tell the sitting judge that you missed your date but are prepared (cash in hand) to resolve the tickets. Tell the judge that you believe you have a warrant and asked that it be recalled. Get the recall in hand before you leave the courthouse, as the warrant won't be removed from local LE systems for up to ten days. Carry the recall with you at all times.
