Somebody please tell me if these companies will ever grow up and go fibre optics all over

I mean, 1 gig should be downloaded in less than 5 minutes. That fast. In the east coast, Time Warner was very fast. Still no fibre optics there.

Here's the rub..... with deregulation of the comm biz in the late 1980's by Judge Green in the AT&T case, there are multiple companies in the game, at least comcast and quest here, not to mention other firms in the suburbs and satellite firms too. If ALL of the terrestrial firms try to build fiber optic systems, you'll have the horrendous cost of that infrastructure being spent by several firms and thus the end users will have to pay much higher bills.

Our government has lost sight of the old rule of thumb that the MOST efficient provider is a regulated monopoly, i.e., ONE provider who only has to build ONE system.

I recall the late 1990's back in DC, everyone and their brother were digging up the damned streets to lay internet lines, various firms all vying for business and all building EXPENSIVE REDUNDANT cable plants.

I just changed from Qwest to Comcast. I did a little study beforehand though comparing the two services and posted it here: Comcast vs Qwest a direct comparison of connection speeds in Boulder Colorado - Steven Hubert

Hope this doesn't come off as spammy, just trying to be helpful.

I have Qwest but wish I had went with Comcast and I will probably switch here soon. In Lakewood my service is interrupted almost daily. Also they were very slow to come out and set my service up which was supposed to be a "self setup" but their lines weren't even connected properly.

Here is my speed on Qwest for $75 a month:

From Steve's article above it appears I can get near the same DL speed at Comcast for $44 a month:

Is double the UP really worth $31?

Also I have found that Comcast has a subscription to ESPN3 where Qwest does not (little thing but I like watching ESPN online).
