I'm moving back to Philly and am thinking about stopping in Denver and then Chicago. It's just me and a friend in a Dodge Caliber with a roof-bag. The car will be packed solid too.
I'm wondering if it's safe to drive to Denver this time of year, or is it still snowy and icy?

Or should I just take I-40 across the southern route?

Thank you for your help.

Mike

It is so unsafe that tens of thousands of cars and trucks do it every week.

Watch wx forecasts and road conditions. Last Thanksgiving weekend we were driving back from LV and after our overnite stop in Grand Junction we had to change direction and used I-50 thru Montrose and Monarch Pass due to weather conditions. Generally I-40 is better, but I fought horrible blizzard conditons last year driving to Phoenix. Even got hit in the rear by a bus outside of Winslow. It was a memorable trip.
