Unless we need a lot of stuff or something big and bulky, we ride our bikes over to the grocery store (my husband has little saddle bags on his bicycle) and we just go more often.

Only on weekends do I go from home to the grocery. Usually I buy for the week, but in some weeks I'm lazy and just eat out or stop by the grocery on my way home to pick up just that night's dinner.

I am 1 1/4 miles from a Safeway, about 2 miles from a King Soopers. I go from home, ususally. If I need to stop on the way home from work, I go to an Albertson's that is on the way.

You know, Albertsons bugs. They have all these awesome prices, awesome selection, horrible checkout. Even with their self-checkout. Usually there are only 2 cashiers and the self-checkout isn't the easiest.

King Soopers self-checkout is awful, too, at least in Lville. I almost always need help. Ditto the library (while we're kvetching about self-checkouts, lol)!

The one on the s.w. side of Longmont is great. Someone is always standing there and notices right away we have our own bags (they have to be weighed first). Other than that, we zip right through!

my answer is the same as "wanttomoveeast". Try to just go once a week.

OOPS - I should change my answer. About once a month we drive 4+ miles to Costco!

As of a couple of weeks ago, I live about 1/4 mile from a Safeway. King Soopers is about a mile away, and a Wild Oats is about 3.5 miles away. I usually drive to King Soopers once a week for a big shop, but I ride my bike to Safeway. I haven't yet, but I hope to ride up to the Cherry Hills Village Wild Oats soon because I can use the bike path that runs right by my house. Although it's relatively close, the trip to King Soopers requires a car, because I can only get there by crossing 470 via Quebec, and I'm not that brave!

~6 miles to the King Sooper off Bromley and US85. Eventually they'll put one up closer to us in Reunion, but until then we usually buy for like two weeks at a time.
