Hi all. And speaking of east Denver, Is there anyone here who attended Montclair Elementary School during the 1950s-early '60s?

My little sister worked at the Drumstick on South Santa Fe for a couple years in the middle 1970's. I stopped in there lots of times for dinner!

He was just such a sweet guy - so unlikely for a man who ran a strip club - love being reminded of him.

My father and uncle owned the Blue Onion - love the shout out - in the early 60's it was the cool spot for pilots and stewardesses...when flying was still glamorous...and they had the annual blue onion picnic in Morrison which were wild parties - does anyone remember that? I was too young to ever attend one.

For those familiar with West Colfax, what did you prefer, Dino's or Ramones?
They were both owned by Dino. Ramone's never seemed as consistent.

Now that it's summer I was remembering how we used to be able to hear Englewood Speedway from our house, about three miles away. We used to go watch the races there, all stock cars, and we especially like the figure 8 races. It seems crazy today that they'd let them do that kind of thing because it almost guaranteed there would be T-bone crashes galore. Plus they had demolition derby contests. I remember going to see races at Lakeside Speedway also.

I remember being able to hear Englewood Speedway from my parent’s house in Downtown Littleton. It was very loud, but I don’t think anybody really complained about it. Sad thing is the track shut down before I could save enough money to see a race there. I do remember seeing a couple of Forth of July fireworks displays there with my family though.

I found this video of racing at the Englewood Speedway.

We spent many a night at the Englewood Speedway watching a friend race a number of clunkers in the figure 8s and demolition derbies. We were young and dumb and it never occurred to us that it was anything but fun, but I'm sure people got injured. Those t-bone crashes! This was in the mid-'60s.

Long before he moved east to become a big disc jockey in Philadelphia & New York City as well as a popular TV sportscaster with Washington, DC's WRC NBC 4 the late George Michael worked at KBTR where he was known as "King" George Michael. Did something happened to George when he was in Denver ?? The reason I ask is that when I did radio in West Virginia about 15 years ago when George was still at WRC-TV 4 my then-boss attended some big event at George's estate complete with horses, lots of food, wine and very expensive cigars. According to my boss George had no problem at all during the event talking about his days at Philly's WFIL and NYC's 77 WABC but when it came to KBTR and Denver George Michael just would not talk about it. Not at all other than a simple "..yes I did work in Denver once". and that was it. Wonder if there is a story there..someplace ??
