My wife and I are relocating to Denver, and actually have jobs on opposite sides of the city. One is at DIA, and the other is near Golden. What would be good areas to live in that would allow us to have similar commute times?

So far we've looked at the Henderson / Commerce City area and Stapleton. Henderson and Commerce City seem to have much better deals on homes at the moment, and both areas seem like they would have equal commutes. From what I can tell, I-76 from Henderson to Golden is not as bad as some of the other highways? Stapleton also seems to be a little overpriced. Is any of that remotely close to true?

What are people's opinions of the Henderson area? I realize its away from Downtown, and near some industrial, but are the communities safe? Is the nearby industry a real nuisance?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Until someone with specific knowledge can speak up, use our Search tool with keywords like Commerce, Henderson, Stapleton to see what is already here on those topics, and I know there's quite a bit.

I personally would stay far away from the commerce city schools.

As for Henderson I lived in that area, and can tell you that your commute time to either area will be decent. Most of the time you can make it out to Golden within a half hour, and out to DIA within 20 minutes.

Nobody I know that lives in Henderson has ever had a problem with industries, as for commerce city, the older part of town there is a smell during the summer from the refinery, and much of the town has a industrial feel to it.

Crime in Commerce City is pretty bad, although it is usually run of the mill type, very few murders or even rapes that I have heard about, but my brother in law had his car stolen right off the street in front of his friends house in broad daylight. Henderson is relatively safe and while living there I never had a single problem.

Default Henderson

What is Henderson like? It looks pretty new, yet it's fairly cheap. WHat's the catch? And how can such a suburban-looking place be so close to downtown? Is it where Stapleton once was?

The catch is it's not close to downtown. It's just about to Brighton, which without traffic would be 25-30 minutes. Think tract-homes on the plains near train tracks and farms. There are similarly suburban-looking places closer than this to downtown. The neighborhood named Stapleton is where the old airport was, about 10-15 miles to the south of Henderson the way the crow flies.
