Congrats! That is probably better for your work location.

FWIW, the area west of Arvada has its share of mines and landfills

Leyden, Colorado - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map

All things considered, still probably a better choice for you than Erie.

Crap! I'm outta here

We are pretty far south of Leyden Rock and Rocky Flats, at least.

Erie is off of County Line Road which is near Highway 287, which goes straight into Denver, or up to Longmont and Fort Collins. It's also right off of I-25. Both routes give work options in Denver or up north. You are looking at a 25 minute commute just to northern Denver, and then another 30 minutes to an hour through Denver depending on where you are headed. Most commutes from newer low priced neighborhoods around Denver are going to be close to an hour to downtown/DTC area, depending on where you are working. Erie to Longmont, Loveland, or Fort Collins is anywhere from 20 minutes to 40 minutes. Fracking is not an issue for all people, mostly environmentalists. Do some studying on it is my recommendation. It's not as bad for the environment as some may think. It's a hot issue in Colorado right now.

Hey Bburn - where do you end up? We are looking at some options in West Arvada, but the only new builds we have seen south of Leyden Rock are the KB homes off Indiana.

You are buying location, parks, schools, livable commute, etc

I guess you can go out to the alkaline desert next to a fracking well and get a giant McMansion for the same price as a ranch home in a nice neighborhood. It would probably work fine if you just come home and watch TV and don't care about the extra time in traffic.

You can also find big homes for cheap in subdivisions all along the east of Denver.

I don't think you'll find a McMansion in Erie in the $300s.

For people having issues being outbid on homes in metro Denver, we went through the same thing back in 1999 in California. We bid on over 20 homes and never got one, and sort of gave up by around September. But then we started bidding in early December, when nobody wants to move, and we got a home almost immediately. If you can wait until that time of year, you'll probably have better luck since people tend to not want to move in December.

Just from a quick glance it seems like you could get that in Denver for the around same price.

Why move to Erie .. ? The prairie dogs, Fracking jobs, I25 bottle neck commute, ... ? Save 15k on a poorly built late 90s home ?

Who says they're poorly built, any more so than homes of that era throughout the metro?

For someone who works in Boulder or Longmont, Erie is fine, better than Arvada or Westminster.
