David,

Yes, I have. I don't think I could be persuaded to move to Commerce City, especially because my wife will likely be at her job for another two years, no more. As I said, I work in Lakewood, but only go in three days/week, so we can be a bit flexible with the commute. I'm not familiar at all with Aurora, but if you have suggestions of specific areas, please fire away. As someone said above, renting is looking more and more appealing (aside from the prospect of moving again).

Erie>Commerce City. Id rather be on a garbage dump than near a refinery.

You may want to consider north Thornton. Specifically the areas where the light rail will open in 2018. I like their trail system, especially around Eastlake. And I like the way the city is run. I haven't seen them making the boneheaded decisions that Erie makes.

I suspect when the OP said Commerce City they meant Reunion which doesn't have a refinery problem.

The parts of Commerce City I was referring to are further away from the refinery than Stapleton is. I'm not going to suggest this OP look at "original" Commerce City unless he was looking for a house <$165,000, built pre-1960, in a laissez-faire neighborhood (drive around old CC, you'll note that zoning is nearly non-existent), with plenty of Spanish-speaking residents. When that poster arrives, I will surely suggest old CC.

BBurn, try zips 80018 and 80019 in Aurora. And the aforementioned Reunion.

But work is in Lakewood, I wouldn't like that commute, even part time.

I wouldn't either, but he was considering Erie as well.

Yep, the wife works in CC for another couple of years. davebarnes - I've checked out Wheat Ridge and continue to do so, but haven't seen anything that looks great for the price. Lakewood seems to be more reasonable, with similar properties.

Yeah, the commute from Erie, Thornton, CC, etc. would not be fun. It's not fun from Broomfield as I do now. Thanks for the replies; I'll just keep trying in this god-forsaken market.
