I'm going to be moving to Denver eventually and want to know where some places are that match my living criteria. I want to be around a younger singles crowd (20s to 30s). I have two big dogs and I was hoping to find a more upcoming area that has newer townhome style apartments with a small yard or dog park. It would be nice to walk to lots of shops and stores but I have a car and would really like an attached garage. I love snowboarding and biking so I'd like to be close to outdoor activities. My rent goal is to stay somewhere around 1200 or less. If I can think of anything else, I'll add it. What do you guys think?

Default Difficult

"I want to be around a younger singles crowd (20s to 30s)."
That means downtown Denver in neighborhoods around Union Station.
Denver Maps - Downloadable Maps (City-wide) has neighborhood, park, bike maps.

"have two big dog"
The rental market is extremely tight in Denver and landlords are very fussy.
Colorado Division of Housing: Slide show: Latest vacancy and rent data for metro Denver

"newer townhome style apartments"
Very rare in Denver. Almost zero downtown. Some in Cherry Creek and Highland.

"snowboarding and biking so I'd like to be close to outdoor activities."
The nearest mountain (Loveland) is one hour from Denver. The others are 90+ minutes.

"My rent goal is to stay somewhere around 1200 or less."
Use Padmapper.com and its filters.
Good luck.

We were looking for something similar (townhouse style, somewhat updated, area of young people/not full of families), and it pretty much doesn't exist at that price point.

I like the Uptown neighborhood for more affordable and young. Not sure about the dog and garage situation though. http://www.apartmentguide.com/neighb...Denver/Uptown/

I was thinking Golden, CO would be a good fit. It's not that far from Denver, it's nestled in the foothills, and it's near the Colorado School of Mines (college town). You might have a better chance at finding a house to rent with a yard, too.

As far as affordability, I couldn't say. A co-worker of mine had a garden-level (basement) apartment there and paid about $650/month. Of course, he doesn't have animals. Pet rent will cost you about $25-50 per pet per month. Tag on another $300 pet deposit at most places. Keep in mind that the larger the animal, the harder it is to find a place that will take you in. Most rentals have size/weight restrictions (less than 50lbs). A lot of places are now requiring you to have rentals insurance as well. Tag on another $20/month for that. Utilities are another $100 or so a month. Any 1-BR in or around Denver is going to cost you about $1000/month and that's not accounting for whether or not they will allow you to have two large dogs.

Welcome to the REAL Colorado. It looks lovely in pictures and has all these great activities, but it all comes to you at a premium price. $1200 or less will, at best, get you an outdated 2-BR apartment in Cap Hill.

Uptown is far from affordable. Long wait lists, too. This was when I checked out places there a few years ago. Who knows how much rents have gone up since then.

That link showed quite a few options at or near $1200. Maybe not available or real???

I think the OP is looking for a townhome, though. Apartment style rentals can be found in Uptown for ~$1200, but no townhomes.
