I'm specifically talking about Lodo and Highlands areas (I recently moved to Lodo). I have two friends visiting from the DC area in January, we are three early 30's guys (2 married, 1 single) just looking for a lively environment that isn't dead, that's my biggest criteria. I can handle the early 20's/frat boy scene if it's a lively environment, but I'm also open to more mature venues for people my age as well. I'm open to your suggestions and appreciate any insights you have. Thanks.

Linger, Ale House, Forest Room 5, and Williams and Graham (speakeasy, but make reservations!) are my faves in the highlands and I'm the same age as you.

Generally avoid LoDo, but if you must there is the Cruise Room (another speakeasy but in downtown) and Green Russell (Larimer Square) and Uptown Tavern (just east of downtown on 17th St). Keep heading east down 17th a bit and the Thin Man is a great hangout on Thursday nights. Yes, it's a bit outside of LoDo but it's a really unique place with good drinks and clientele.

Charlie Brown's at 10th and Grant on Cap Hill is a great place to start. They have a great heated patio. I second the Cruise Room (pricey drinks but well worth it). If you're into jazz, El Chapultepec on Market is great any night of the week. Those are all "old school" Denver hangouts. If you want something with more action, just walk around Larimer Square/Market St. There are tons of busy bars full of mostly 20-somethings. Not sure what it's like on a Th but Double Daughter (16th and Market) is a pretty cool bar too.
