Okay we want to ski, want to take our son (will be 3 this winter). We aren't good at it mind you.

What is a good location that is comfortable for winter daytrips from the Denver Tech Center?

Close, not to complex. . .just getting started kind of place.

Probably Keystone or Breckenridge would be the closest and easiest with enough green runs

I wouldn't go to Loveland or A-Basin until you can do at least blues comfortably

Honestly, I wouldn't pay the lift ticket prices at Breck or Keystone if you are just trying to learn the basics and do greens. Loveland Valley is the all-green side of Loveland and will probably suit you just fine for doing some groomers and getting your kid ski lessons. Once you've got Loveland Valley down, then you should go to Keystone, Copper, or Breck, at which point you should be able to get your money's worth, and then you can come back to Loveland Basin and do the blues and (few) greens there.

Loveland's at exit 216 on I-70, before the tunnel, so it's a quick trip from Denver.

I have the same plan with our 5 year old when we move to Denver next month. Loveland and Copper are both free under 6 ( I think, but need to confirm). My wife and I started at 3 in Tahoe so its in the blood to ski and board. Our plan is to get our daughter in ski school someplace and get her lesson after lesson for a couple weeks. Then take her up weekly after she gets the hang of it. Next year we will open her up to other places.

Just read this about winter park:

For only $10, kids get unlimited access to the Galloping Goose, the resort’s two-person lift at the bottom of the easy runs on Mary Jane Mountain. Kids with full-park access can also use the other beginner areas, including the 125-foot “magic carpet” or conveyer belt lift and the 700-foot platter lift. Kids ages five and under ski free. Like most other Colorado resorts, there is a full-featured children’s ski school on-site.

Not a day trip, but a GREAT place to get your ski legs is Powderhorn. It's on the western slope near Grand Junction.
EXCELLENT ski school and very family orientated. Not crowded at all! This spring the biggest lift line was 3-4 people deep and you pretty much had every run to your self!

Breck is not my favorite although close to Denver, I don't like how the mountian is set up and it get very crowded! I would hate it as a new skiier.

Cooper does run some very good kid deals and it's close to Denver. I would search out the smaller local places.
