I'm trying to accumulate a list from local residents of different cities of their top 5 favorite high rises. I'd love for you to list them. Please include at least the address or name and a photo if available (unless someone has already posted by the time you put your vote in)

Thanks

Sadly Denver's skyline is made up mostly of rectangles of varying shades of brown or gray. If I had to name a top 5 it would be:

5 Denver Gas and Electric Building - not really a high rise, but beautifully lit up
4 Four Seasons Hotel - kinda shaped like the Empire St. Building, but much less cool.
3 1999 Broadway - mostly for the fact that it wraps around a beautiful Catholic church.
2 Wells Fargo Center (aka: cash register building) - Denver's signature building known for its top.
1 D&F Tower - Tallest structure west of the Mississippi when it was built, it is all that is left standing from the Daniels and Fisher department store.

Most of Denver's best and coolest buildings were built by the government. Private businesses here tend to build utilitarian boxes.

Here are six cool public buildings:

Denver City and County Building - it looks better decorated for Christmas.
Colorado Capitol Building - sits across a park from the City and County Building
Jefferson County Government Center - I love the use of glass, including the dome, in the atrium, but the boring box crowd complained it cost too much and nicknamed it the Taj Mahal.
Denver Library Central Branch - Best remodel EVER. The old building is entirely incorporated into the building. Really.
Denver Art Museum Hamilton Building - Weird angles in this building give my mother in law vertigo.
Denver International Airport, Jeppesen Terminal Building - The roof design was pure genius.

The Denver Art Museum is just another modernistic Libiskind "shock and awe" project. All that's missing is a prozac dispenser by the front doors.

Hilarious I do like that building though. I am going with Lookout MT after biking to the top from Golden. Built environment Skyline isn't why I like Denver.

No one's mentioned the old Mountain Bell building on 14th. The address is 931 14th Street, Denver, CO. Very cool art deco building. More info can be found here Telecommunications Virtual Museum
