1. Schools in Denver range from horrible to great. While Denver (and the State of Colorado) has open enrollment, it is meaningless if the neighborhood kids occupy all the spaces.
So, the trick is to live in the best school neighborhoods/districts/enrollment_areas.

2. Some school ratings are distorted and some are not.
Accurate - Bromwell. Every kid has rich parents so the school rating is accurate.
Not - Edison. The "average" rating is 6-7. But, 1/3 of the kids are free lunch kids. Do your really think that the children of the "Highland Mommies" and the "free lunch" children have the same scores?

What do you want in neighborhood?
I prefer a small town feel but less than an hour drive from a big city.

I prefer to have at least 1 acre land.

I prefer a neighborhood I could walk my dog in the middle of the night without having to carry a gun.

I prefer a neighborhood where everyone knows each other and has a proactive community when it comes to holidays.

I prefer a neighborhood that's not always full of traffic congestion.

Thanks,

Joe

Denver is very diverse. Its hard to tell you were neighberhood or school is best for you. I have beeen in colorado for 7 months. I an currently renting a house in Aurora. I live in a very quiete and safe area, i know all my neighbers, the kids all play in the street and ots safe. The public school my 5 yr. old goes to just got an award of excellense for the 2013 school year. Now, i have to say not all Aurora is like this, you do have your pockets of good and bad neighberhoods. As far as land goes,we dont have an acre land, houses were biuld in the 90's, i can walk at night withoit carrying my gun and most of my neighbers have big dogs in there yard. As far as home prices go, the house down the street sold for 177,000. Its a single story 3 bed ,2 bath with a finished basement. About 2000 plus sq. ft home. Hope this i.fo might help you in your future visit.
