I started to ride my 7-speed Beach Cruiser on the trails around my house in Westminster when I got here last October. Mostly been riding the Big Dry Creek Trail and some of the off-shoots. Totally awesome! however, the more I ride, the more clear it is to me that I need something a little more suited to Colorado. I have no desire to ride single-track down the side of a mountain, but I absolutely love the trails the front range has to offer. Here are my questions:

(1) I am a 52 year old man, 6-1, 250 pounds. Any suggestions or advice as to what type of bike I would benefit most from would be greatly appreciated. I know Craigslist is always a good place to look for used stuff. However, suggestions on local bike shops, approximate cost, various brands, etc would really help.

(2) Is there a comprehensive map of bike trails in the Denver/Boulder area? A friend of mine said I could make it to Downtown Denver from here in Westminster. Wouldn't even know where to start.

(3) What is the dry white residue I am seeing on the trails in the last few days?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I look forward to getting educated by your responses.

The residue is probably from ice-melt.
I am in the market for a bike as well. When I last lved in CO, I had a 21 inch frame hybrid, that worked very well on the trails. One of my favorites was the Dry Creek in Westy and Broomfield.

Just before moving back here, someone stole my bike from my porch.
I have been looking through Craigslist, but haven't had a lot of Luck.

A co-worker recommended a Bike shop in Louisville, just north of South Bolder Road on 95th (SR 42) Street: Trek Bicycle Store. 1817 Colorado 42, Louisville, CO

Here is the best source I have found for trail maps:

what type of riding are you planning on doing exactly? are you going to stick to metro area bike paths which are mostly flat paved and gravel surfaces? would you like to climb up into the foothills? mountain biking?
