I currently rent an apartment in Thornton and it has extremely thin floors and walls to a lesser degree. I can clearly hear everything my neighbors upstairs and downstairs do and say and I'm sure they can hear me too. I currently pay $910 for this place and even the 60+ year old, $350 studio that I rented when I was in college back east had way better privacy than this place.

I know I could rent a townhouse but I was just wondering if anyone knew of any apartments in the Denver area that have thicker, more private floors/walls. For around $900 I would have thought this wouldn't be an issue. Oh, and I couldn't possibly care less about pools, saunas, gyms, etc. as I never use them but I would like to have a washer/dryer.

Any apartment suggestions?

Why not try to buy a house for $120,000-$140,000 and spend less than rent for a place of your own?

Because I'd wager that a $910/mo apartment is in a nicer neighborhood than a $120-140k house.

Whichever apartment you end up choosing, you need to be on the top floor if you want to minimize noise issues.

It might be possible. If the OP is already in Thornton and likes Thornton, there is a ton of newer construction in nice neighborhoods (subdivisions) in that price range.

Well, you can find a townhouse style apt or rent a condo(not a condo conversion, though).

I'm not considering a house yet because I haven't lived here that long and should things not work out I don't want to have 1000's of dollars tied up in a house.

A townhouse is more than I need and getting a nice one in a good neighborhood is likely out of my price range.

Considering the above, it's more viable to rent an apartment. Also, considering what I'm spending I should be able to find an apartment where I have more privacy so that I don't hear my neighbors and they can't hear me, or so I think. I'm more concerned about privacy than noise as my current apartment has virtually no privacy whatsoever as I'm sure if I can hear them so well then they can hear me—it's like I have roommates, not neighbors. I was just wanting to know if anyone knew of a complex where you had more privacy/better walls. Or does such a thing even exist in Denver?

Also, I would be willing to move to another part of Denver as long as it isn't as far as Boulder.

Like I said, a townhouse style apt might suit you. I live in one. It's not big(2bd, 900sqft) and it sure as hell beats having someone on top or below me. IIRC, there were some in the Lowry area when we were looking around.

Of course, we saw some apartments around that price in HR that were of more solid construction, but that's HR and not Denver

Check out Grosvenor Arms Apartments in Uptown/Capitol Hill. I had a friend who lived there in two different apartments and rarely heard anyone. It's in an incredible location and had really great rent rates when he lived there two years ago.

^^^ That's because it's so haunted, you are literally transported to another universe when you enter your apartment.^^^ But seriously, I understand the OP's frustration. I lived in a loft downtown that had paper thin walls. I've also lived in multiple apartments around the country like that. Why are homes in America built so cheaply? In Europe you don't even need fire insurance because the walls are so thick you can't burn them down.
