No gum. No candy. I had a problem tooth for years. I could not bite anything, no more eating apples...I could not drink hot things or cold things. I used Sensodyne toothpaste. You can manage....just not very good.

Wow, mine is not so bad. I don't bite into hard things, but since the tooth has a root canal I don't have problems with cold, hot or sweet things.
I think I wouldn't have problems even with apples, but I am too afraid to try for the time being.
