Hi,
I'm a middle aged single woman whose lifestyle preference would be (Miami :-)) but career calls me likely to Wilmington (JP Chase Morgan). The Philly lifestyle seems a better active fit as I don't want to be in suburbia with lots of young families. But..I also don't want a miserable commute. And, I want to deal with snow as little as possible...no sidewalk shoveling, digging car out of driveways, etc., so I'm thinking someplace with enclosed parking. Any thoughts about good wilmington places, philly or NJ? Really don't know this area at all. And, I'm looking to rent. Thanks much.

Do you know if your job is in downtown Wilmington? If so then you can take a train from Center City (downtown) Philly to Wilmington. The local SEPTA train takes about an hour while the AMTRAK train takes a half hour (with no intermediate stops but also at least double the SEPTA cost).

I've see the JP chase building and it is in the city of Wilmington.
Good advice form tone509. Amtrak is a great way to go.

Default Thanks so much!

So Center City Philly sounds good if I have access to Amtrack and it seems like the JP Chase building would be close enough to Amtrack. Any apt/condo rentals that you know may fit the bill?

Thanks again.

Lindasuedallas, I'd suggest that you post Philadelphia questions on the Philly board for better answers. Also, I would check out the cost. I couldn't find a commuter discount but I think Amtrak is really expensive on a daily basis.

Using the train to comute from Philly to Wilmington certainly is doable. Since most comuters would be working in Philly trains would not be crowded on your trips. I believe Septa has reduced fares for comuters.(They did years ago when I used them) They are locals and would give you time to read or do something on your laptop. Amtrak would be nonstop. I believe you would need to be in an upper pay grade to comute 5 days a week on that.

I thnk she would be working in Stanton and not in downtown -- Linda would be well advised to check with the JPMChase to find out the zip code of the office that will clarify whether downtown or not.

There are several locations in Wilmington - Trolley Square comes to mind - that will satisfy many of the conditions of Linda's, without additional financial burden - commuting time and expense, philly wage tax etc.
