Retiring and moving to Lewes area in September. Hard to find reasonable rentals. The few apartments that are there are like $1400 a month. Would love a 1 or 2 bedroom apt or condo. Any suggestions?

Are you looking for a rental for a period of time before you buy a home or are you planning on renting indefinitely? Would a furnished rental be OK or does it need to be unfurnished?

If you can delay moving to Lewes until October, there are several opportunities to rent a furnished condo from October thru April at about $800 a month + utilities. (They usually will not allow pets.) These same units will go for $1000 per week during beach season. So, if your need is to rent until you can find a place to buy ( and can put your furniture in temporary storage - you might be able to find something.

Will probably rent a few years. But need it all year long, not just Oct to April. Furnished would be okay too.

You may want to think about inland a little bit.

I agree. When a condo owner within 3 or 4 miles of the beach can get $1000 a week during beach season (i.e $20,000 for the season) they are not going to be interested in renting to you for $1000 for a month.

Once you get inland 10 - 15 miles where it takes 30+ minutes to get to the beach the prices will go down.

And if you get even closer to the water, say around Cape Henlopen or Lewes Beach, summer rentals can be more like $3,000+ per week!

A family member of mine found a group of reasonable long-term rentals offered in Dewey Beach:
Ocean side condo, for $1,200/month, and we looked at one, which had a direct ocean view (3rd floor). It had 1 BR, 1 BA, a sitting area, galley kitchen, and was just steps from the ocean. These are furnished. It seemed to fit the bill for a single person. Only thing, it had been rented out on a weekly basis, and was in pretty rough condition. Another negative, it had a Murphy bed (folds up against the wall to free up sitting area). But for a single person, it might work for some. If you're interested, Direct Message me and I'll give you the contact.

Tough to find year round rentals near the beach, I have a 3bdr, 2.5 bath home in Ocean View I could rent out for $1200 a month all year or rent it out for $250 a night during the summer. I can make more $ doing the summer thing leaving it vacant for 8 months of the year.

True but many communities do not permit nightly rentals, like mine. All rentals must be long term. So keep looking.
