My mom is moving to DE too, and I'm trying to help her research the move. I was wondering if there are any good websites for seniors about DE, tax info, subsidized apartments. Anything else my mom might need to know, she lives off of social security.

I am learning quickly about that sort of thing, as it may apply to my folks as well. About what time frame would mom be coming to DE, might I ask? I'll get back to you about websites geared for senior info, but off the top of my head try DE state gov't (look for links for seniors). Also, I believe Modern Maturity Center has a decent website; elizamary probably knows the link.

Will get back to you soon!
Mary

Here is a website that might help.
Senior Directory of DelawareSenior Directory of Delaware, Find or Locate Senior, care, health, senior, products, canes, aids, elderly, seniors, home, pain, pressure, medicare, back, ...
delaware.uscity.net/Senior/ -

Also, when a person is 65 they get half of their school tax back.
Modern Maturity center is a fabulous senior center with all kinds of fun things to do and see.

Delaware is a good state to retire. I believe they call it the new florida!

with no sales taxes and low real estate taxes, it is a fitting state for someone on a fixed income.
But of course, this depends on your own perspective. One woman I have met complains it is high. She is from South Dakota. I suppose it depends on where you are from.
Now New Yorks think they died and went to heaven. Oh New Jersey folks too. Taxes in NJ are off the charts.

The lady from So Dakota would think it's high as there are no property taxes in SD.

We left NJ for MN in 2005 and are now contemplating a move back east and want to research DE. There's nothing like the east coast!

Yes that is correct and she also said housing, utilities and insurance was also cheaper.

I like the east coast too However, NJ is very expensive.
De is really one of the less expensive places to live. Of course you may also get some negative responses too.
All and all.......we are very happy here.

My mom is coming from NJ, so she's on board with the thinking it's much cheaper.
