I have visited Delaware (Rahobeth and Dewey beaches) two times in my life and loved it both times! i have read some posts but haven't found exactly what im looking for quite yet.

Are the coastal towns (such as Dewey & Rahobeth) good places to live year-round or are they more seasonal places? And if so, what would you say is the best residential coastal town?

About me:
I am 23, looking to live on the coast. I have lived in Colorado most of my life but I have also lived in Hawaii and although the beaches there are AMAZING, its not somewhere I would want to live full time. I do like to go out, shop and sometimes go to the bars, although I am not a "party person" so I dont think I would need to be in or near a college town. I do NOT want to live in a large city, (such as Denver, Phoenix, Philly).

If you have any suggestions or information that might help me decide on the right place I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Employment will be your major obstacle living in southern Delaware, many of the jobs are seasonal and probably don't compensate much. Much more opportunities are up north in new Castle County, Philly, Baltimore and APG. I came from similar geography, lived in in Utah all my life except for a couple years in Hawaii. I live in Newark and commute to Philly daily.

Just to expand on Raven's post. Over 30 years ago I was a union truck driver in Phila. Today I earn less and have far fewer benefits. At least I have a year round job. Would I move back to Phila?? NO WAY.

They are great places to live year-round if you can afford it. I guess I'm expanding on Raven's response.... what kind of work are you looking for?

Many of the homes in these beach towns are 2nd homes to those with good paying jobs in New Castle County, Washington D.C. or Philly. If you are looking for a lower paying job, you may be able to find a small community inland that you can afford that is just a short drive to the beaches. Some of these communities are too small town for many.... and smell of chicken farms

Lewes is the place to live full time. Best community, schools, etc. If you are in the healthcare, legal sector there are plenty of jobs. Also, tourism industry. Great life style but it depends on what you want. I would encourage you to look around the whole beach area. PS: sounds like you have your head on straight. DON'T go down the corporate path! Life is not meant to lived that way!!
