My wife and I just moved here to Dover last week and are wondering where would be the best spots to go for a drive to see Christmas light displays. We have a 13 month old son who really enjoys looking at lights and stuff, so we thought it'd be nice to go for a drive. Any suggestions would be great.

Have been enjoying it quite a bit so far, a much needed slowdown from the Hampton Roads area in Virginia...

It is a ride from Dover but all open Roads this time of year. Checkout the light show in Ocean City Maryland.

Welcome to DE!

There is a single home south of Dover which has an elaborate display of inflatable Christmas characters on their front lawn. It is well-illuminated and quite a scene. The house is on South State street about a half mile south of Postlethwait elementary school on your right heading to Magnolia. There is very little traffic at night so you could pull over or just drive by slowly.

I'm sure your little one would enjoy the large characters.

Have you seen the light displays in downtown Dover? Magnificent! If you are on Rt. 13, turn west on Loockerman Street. You'll immediately see them. Lights start near Mirror Lake, and extend past the new library, and City Hall. All the huge trees are decorated in colorful lights for about 2-3 blocks. The one in different shades of blue is outstanding. Ahead, you'll see an archway of trees through the business district, and they extend west past Governors Avenue. It makes our holiday every year, and we ride through there 2-3 times/week. Oh, after seeing all those beautiful trees, turn on State Street (South) The Green has a huge elevated stand with the word P E A C E lit up. That's near the old State House.

One of the best communities for Christmas lights in the Dover area is Wild Meadows. It is located behind Dover Downs. The entrance is on Persimmon Tree Lane.
