It might be helpful to private message hensleya1, who has lived at the Landing, and Lucy Striker, who lives in St. Anne's Hill. Those two in addition to Amandarthegreat are the posters who actually live downtown or near it. I personally plan to move there once I am out of college, and I can assure you I would move to Jefferson Place in a second if I was looking into an apartment.

Also Dayton Sux lives in Washington Twp but has a vast knowledge of Dayton. Check out his blog:

Daytonology.blogspot.com

Despite the name, he will give you an honest assessment of the place. Good luck!

I can't vouch for or against Jefferson Place but did they ever fix the boarded-up plate glass on the first floor?

You can't go wrong with the landing, ask for Todd and he'll point you in the right direction. First Place is also good, albeit expensive. I have a lower opinion of the cannery than most here, it's gone downhill recently.

No, you live in the mayor's high class neighborhood. It's not for ordinary folks.

I don't know much about the apartments themselves, but the area is full of a mix of all groups--especially since it is so close to the library, St. Clair's Lofts, and those new townhomes further down 2nd. Right by the Schuster is Performance Place--which is selling condos for ~275k, so the area is very safe and very active during the day and night--especially on weekends. If you're still worried, take a tour of the apartment itself and drive through the neighborhood on a weekday night.
