Hello everyone,
I am pretty sure that this question has been asked before.. But just when I need some advice quickly, I am unable to find the appropriate threads..
Am joining UT SW next month and looking for an apartment in the Uptown area. Am unable to decide between Gables uptown, Post Coles Corner and Post Vintage. The reviews for all three are dismal. Are there really that frequent break ins in these apartments and garages? Is any one safer or better than the other? I am not going to have the chance to visit the area or apartment beforehand. I would sincerely appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Don't know if this matters to you, but I'll throw it out there: some of the Uptown apartment buildings will have a frat house atmosphere as they are largely populated by college students or young professionals just starting out. I've heard that the Gables Uptown highrise definitely has that vibe. I can't address the crime at any of those buildings, but just wanted to be sure you were aware that some Uptown buildings can be rather noisy. If you can possibly find a way to get temporary housing for at least the first week or so, then you would have a chance to look at all of these buildings and many others. Also, there are several condominium buildings at which you might be able to lease an apartment for not much more than renting at Gables. Those will often be better maintained and won't have the frat house atmosphere. The Renaissance on Turtle Creek is just a few blocks out of Uptown on Turtle Creek Blvd. and there is always something available for lease in that building. Also, in the State/Thomas section of Uptown there is a condo called Block 588 (loft style) at which there are often rentals available. Good luck to you!
