Hello everyone! I have been living in Bedford with my boyfriend for three years now. We recently split up and now I'm on my own. I don't know any other area except for Bedford, but I would like to get some advice/suggestions/info on other areas around Dallas.

I work in downtown Dallas and I have two English Bulldogs. Could anyone please tell me where a safe area/apartments to rent for a young, single female with two bulldogs. I don't want my car to get broken into or have my furry babies (they are my kids!) stolen. I also would like to move closer in order to cut down my drive time/TRE/DART time so my dogs won't be alone for a long time during the day while I'm at work. Also, my budget is VERY LIMITED.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate any suggestions!!

I would sign up with one of the apartment locators near the Village in Dallas (or any of those Apartment Locator type businesses with an office near downtown). Tell them your budget, you have two dogs and you want near a DART station. The apartments pay the fee so the service is free.

With dogs, I think you should look for a rental home or duplex in East Dallas - check East Dallas / Lakewood in the daily and weekly alternative paper and on craigslist: dallas / fort worth classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

Keller Springs area is nice. Might be expensive if it's newer apartments.

Stay away from the apartments on McCallum.

I agree with Lakewooder, look for a home. My landlord has lots of homes in Junius Heights (next to Lakewood); let me know if you would like her phone number.

Thanks for your replies!

Does anyone know what the rent is for a small house in the Lakewood area? Is that area safe?

I really only need a small space for me and my dogs. They are english bulldogs who sleep 80 percent of the day and probably only have a huge burst of energy for about 30-45 mins each day. haha.

I'm so nervous about living on my own, alone. So safety is a big issue for me.

I will definitely look at some places around Keller Springs, too.

Thanks again everyone!!

We pay $1295 for a 2,000 square foot house. You won't need as much space, so I think it would be a lot cheaper for you. Also, we've never had any problems here. I am home alone a great deal of the time and have never been scaed.

Over the last few years a lot of complexs have changed their pet policies. Many have banned certain breeds, and they often include bullddogs which I can't understand. A lot of times they just lump Pit Bulls, and English Bulldogs together even though they are totally different. I have a French Bulldog, came across breed discrimination. My dog is a spoiled little baby, and I was able to convince them he was not a dangerous breed.

I've come across some places that charge "pet rent" in addition to the actual pet deposit.

Maybe try Craigs List?
Pet rent? Wow. That is interesting. I never heard of that before. I heard of pet deposit but not pet rent.
I wish you the best of luck in finding an apartment.
