With all the growth DFW has experienced in recent years, especially from out-of-state, I came across these statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau's latest American Community Survey (ACS) released last month. The table below shows the composition of cities by residents' place of birth. ACS data is available only for communities with more than 20,000 people.

Column 1) Percentage of population who were born in Texas
Column 2) Percentage of population whose birthplace was in a state other than Texas
Column 3) Percentage of population born in Puerto Rico, U.S. Island areas, or born abroad to American parents
Column 4) Foreign-born population

My neighbors are from El Salvador on one side and India on the other. There are alot of people in our complex from India. They go out to the park and play Cricket every Sunday.

Looking at the foreign born populations of Carrollton, Plano, and Haltom City are HUGE! Where are they coming from? I would think alot of them in those areas are probably from Asia.

LAnative10, I found those numbers interesting too. The survey also breaks down the foreign-born population by region of birth, although the data is only available for very large cities. Plano is included, but Carrollton and Haltom City aren't.

PLANO
Asia (51.4%)
Latin America (34.0%)
Europe (6.5%)
Africa (4.6%)
Northern America (2.8%)
Oceania (0.5%)

Thanks for that!!!

Im really not surprised Plano is so heavily Asian. As of 2005 it was over 14% Asian up 4% from 2000. From what Im able to gather, that number will probably continue to skyrocket. By the numbers you posted, that means that over 30,000 Plano residents were born in Asia.

What other cities does it list? I would be intereseted to know about Garland, Richardson, and Irving if they have it?
