Very interesting indeed, thank you for sharing. I never would have figured over half the population of Southlake was transplants. I know some areas have a lot, but that number is just staggering. It would be neat to know where the out of state people come from. Makes me think white flight may not be as bad as I once thought.

Awesome! Is this as of 2008?

I found some other figures from the Asian Community:

As of 2006, The DFW Metro area had 299,082 Asian residents (Im assuming thats not just the foreign born ones).
Between 2000 and 2007, the DFW Metro area gained 85,101 Asian Residents (again, I think that includes Asian Americans).

The latest report was released last month, but the American Community Survey data is based on average characteristics over a three year period (2006-2008). Last year's report was based on average characteristics from 2005-2007.

The survey included a breakdown of the out-of-state population by U.S. region. Most came from either the southern or midwestern states. I've highlighted the U.S. region that forms a plurality or majority percentage of each city's out-of-state population.

1) Northeast [CT, ME, MA, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT]
2) Midwest [IN, IL, IA, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, SD, OH, WI]
3) South [AL, AR, DE, DC, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, MS, NC, OK, SC, TN, VA, WV]
4) West [AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, NM, MT, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY]

Hmm, what is interesting are the communities that received the highest percentage of those coming from the West Coast. I just looked at those that got over 20% and these were the top choices:
Benbrook
Burleson
Cedar Hill
Cleburne
Ft Worth
Frisco
Haltom City
Little Elm
McKinney
North Richland Hills
Watauga
Weatherford
Waxahachie

They went for the areas that had a higher proporiton of lower cost housing. New housing but lower price per square foot. The BIG BRAND NEW HOUSE syndrome hit them.

The original report was based on percentages, not the actual numbers. Of course Dallas has more. You're not being pedantic, you're being ostentatious.
