Finally, we discovered the Double wide bar - it reminded us of European bars a bit, with those funny wall paintings/graffiti and their weird decorations in the yard.

It is pretty cool, with great life performances (which become even better if one is appropriately drunk).

Are there any recommendations of other places like that for life music around Dallas/Plano - for young people to hang around and to absorb the best and the weirdest of the culture?

Thanks

I second Sons of Hermann. Don't even think about Plano.

Jack's Backyard plus the others mentioned above --

Balcony Club at Lakewood Theater is also unusual but more of a jazz place - murals inside the theater.

No live music but you might also like Lakewood Landing.

I second the Grapevine. The people there are really cool and it's a diverse kinda crowd. The really neat aspect I like about it is the range of sexualities you'll find there. Gay, lesbian, straight, bi, transgenered, everyone hanging out and not caring about what your preference is. Just open-minded people chillin and having a good time.

XPO Lounge was another great place over between Deep Ellum and Expo Park -- some of that crowd now goes to The Windmill farther up Maple from The Grapevine.
